This is probably one of my favorite pages in the comic...and it all revolves around the first corner of the page. JT: the classic, over-protective, older brother character. But when I first developed him he wasn't these things at all. During the early sketch phase JT was cheerful, laid back, detached...in other words, ALOOF. Then...as I was drawing his first appearance in the comic none of these qualities appeared on the page. In their place was an expression of maturity, responsibility, and great concern for his younger sister and only sibling. In that instant, looking down at my panel...JT completely changed. Suddenly, I understood him and his role in the story. It's one of those grand moments where a character writes her/himself and it totally changed the dynamics of the characters and the direction of the story. And that's what I love about writing!
